Peridot Newsletter
August 8, 2009

Peridot's history begins on a small triangular island 50 miles or so off the coast of Egypt in the Red Sea. The name of the island has changed many times over recorded history. Its most recent label is Zabargad, the Arabic word for peridot. The mining for peridot ceased many years ago on Zabargad, but mining for peridot continues in Burma, especially around the famous ruby-producing city of Mogok and in Pakistan.

Peridot is the official birthstone of those born in August. It is also the gem designated for the 16th wedding anniversary. If you need a present for a Leo ( -/Aug 23) or a Virgo (Aug 24/- ), maybe this pair of earrings featuring gem-quality peridot of exceptional size is the perfect item. Or take a look at www.meriwether.net for other ideas.
